Gichi walked out into the forest. "Any time I ever try to get even one date, it always fails. I always get shot down somehow. I'm sick of trying!" Gichi shouted as he walked through the woods. He came to a small pond. "Finally, I'll end it." He tied a large rock to himself using nearby vines, then went out into the pond and used it to sink himself, planning never to rise again.

A couple flashes of light shone down above him, before a Goldeen dove and split the vines holding him down with it's horn. Above the water's surface, Mel awaited to drag the Grovyle to dry land.

His unconscious, lifeless body rose to the surface.

Mel drew him out of the water, then began cautiously performing CPR, ensuring he was not using too much power, which would cause more problems.

Gichi finally came to after a few minutes. "No! I want to die. Just let me end my misery!"

Mel shook his head. "I can't do that. You may be distressed, but killing yourself won't fix it." He stared the Grovyle in his eyes, "Trust me, I know what you're feeling. It's the lonliest feeling in the world. But, ironically, you're never truly alone." He sighed, getting up. "At least your problems can be fixed through effort and self improvement. Mine aren't like that. Never have been, never will be." He looked away, "My problem is, I'm too perfect. Everyone's jealous, freaked out, or just plain scared of what I can do. Nowadays I don't care what people think or say- I'm using my perfection in the best way I can. And that is helping others in need- and that includes idiots like yourself who don't respect their abilities enough to use them." Until he reached the last sentence, he had been stating facts in a nonprideful way. The last sentance was delivered in a slightly criticising way.

Mel scowled. "Of course you do."

"Then why have I been turned down by every girl I ever met when all I asked for was a simple walk in the park?"

"Some people's skill is talking with ladies. Quite obviously, yours is not. Until you've learned what your skill is, you won't be very interesting." Mel stated, "Therefore, you're likely to get turned down. However, if you find out what you're skilled at, they're likely to become more interested. A person's skill is something they're good at, and that they enjoy."

"The only thing I know how to do is fight because I'm a gym leader's pokemon."

"Then no wonder you're constantly getting dumped." Mel stated, "There are only a few girls who would enjoy talking about fighting, so if that's the only subject you know anything about, you're not going to get anywhere. My advice is for you to take up a hobby. Since you're a grass type, gardening might be good."

"At least then you'd be able to give a girl flowers you raised." Mel suggested, "After all, what girl doesn't like flowers?" He twitched his eyebrow, "How about this. I'll give you my phone number. If you find a girl who rejects some decent flowers, you know, they're well cared for and not wilty and brown, you give me a call. If you find a girl like that, I'll give you $100 in cash as a consolation."

Mel grinned, "Of course, even if you do somehow manage to pull that off, I'm still not going to let you kill yourself. There's plenty of things you haven't tried yet, I bet. Ever scaled a rock wall? Played a tournament of your favorite sport?" He sat down, "I guess my point is, there's more to life than just girls or popularity. If you enjoy the time you have, that stuff obviously isn't important, right? Besides, I'll bet that you might find a girl without trying just by enjoying yourself, rather than frustrating yourself by trying too hard."

"Maybe so. I mean, I did meet this one girl who was a challenger at the gym. I know she's not interested in pokemon for a relation, but I asked her to role play as a girl I'd just met who was open to the idea of dating pokemon. She said yes to the date in character, then said she was surprised that didn't work with other girls."

Mel seemed thoughtful. "Perhaps there's more to this than originally thought." He grinned, "Feel like taking a chance of being rejected? For science? Not that I'll make you, but it'd be easier for me to know why if I see it."

Mel sighed, "If I see what's going on, there's a better chance I can help you fix the problem. So, if you wanted to take a shot at asking someone on a date, I can observe you." He stretched, "It's that girl you practiced with- she was surprised your request didn't work on other girls. You also said that you knew she wouldn't date a pokemon, right, so perhaps when you're asking a girl for real you do something different."

"It's just a theory, though, I can't guarantee that I'll be able to spot anything." Mel added, "If you feel the benefits outweigh the risks, we can do this, otherwise you don't have to."

"Even when you feel that way, there's always at least one friend, family member, or activity you wish you had spent more time with or done." Mel stated, "Which is why you're never really at rock bottom."

Mel nodded, "It makes sense, when you think about it." He then looked around the forest as he awaited the pokemon's next response.
