Nathan Stuff:
Nathan sighed as he looked at the roughly ten foot tall stack of papers next to him. His self proclaimed ‘glorious’ leader, Ryan, had left him with this paperwork to do, simply because he was gloriously lazy. Nathan groaned and took the first paper off the top of the stack.
“Bring it on!” He declared heroically, grasping his red pen firmly in his hand. At least he had been well equipped to charge through nearly fifteen pounds of paper work. He had at least a thousand pens in a thousand different colors. Blue, black, green, red… He’d already decided that he would use multiple colors on each piece of paper in order to annoy his leader.
He took the first paper down off the list and looked down at it. “Right. This paper is….a request to join the team…” He scanned the paper. “Well, this person looks powerful. Strong Pokemon; seems to have good ethic… Pfft. It appears this person used infer where they obviously meant imply!” He snatched the nearby Stamp from his pile of stationery, flicking open the red pad of ink. “DENIED!” He declared, slamming the stamp down against the paper. He lifted up on the stamp and the paper now had a large stamp declaring that the application had been denied. He tossed the paper to the side and drew forth the next. He glanced over the paper absently and sighed, standing up and walking to the mini-fridge in his tiny office. He opened it and withdrew a bottle of fruit punch Gatorade, opening the cap with a satisfying crackle, then pulling it off and sipping it absently. He walked back to his desk and placed the open Gatorade on his desk.
Stretching now as he reached for his pen, he began to fill out the mindlessly complicated paper and extremely pointless form. Eventually, in an evil rage, he flung his red pen across the room and rubbed his temples. “Why must this be so complicated!?” He shouted, to himself, as he was, at least then, all alone in the room. His red pen’s soft tap against the wall across the room could be heard as he spoke and he sighed, resting his head in his hands as he stared forward. He sipped his Gatorade again and stretched his arms, looking down at the paper in front of him. Interesting…. he thought to himself. The paper was a request to join the team and a request for a Pidgey. The girl that had made the application, was sixteen and, to Nathan, an interesting character; being one of the only people he knew of with natural blue hair, something she had added to the personal section. He smiled and grasped the approved stamp tightly in his hand and slammed it down into the green pad, then against the paper, pulling it up and revealing the newly stamped approved picture. He smiled happily and set it in the approved pile, then drained the rest of his Gatorade. Lifting it up into the air slightly after capping it. He tossed it ever so gently and it glided it easily through the room, landing into the waste basket with a quiet thump.
Nathan yawned and stretched his arms above his head, listening to his back and shoulders pop. He gripped a Pokeball on his belt and lifted it up, clicking it and smiling as it enlarged and he tapped it against the desk. He smiled happily when Zappy, his cute and constantly happy Pikachu appeared onto the desk.
“Pika?” She asked her trainer, tilting her head and smiling cutely at him.
“Hey,” Nathan said, lightly stroking her static emitting cheek. “How have you been lately?”
“Good,” she replied, scampering up to her trainer’s shoulder, her normal resting place. “What are you doing?”
“Well,” Nathan replied, drawing another paper off the stack. “I’m filling out papers for my oh so glorious leader, the all mighty Ryan!” He said flatly as he began to fill out the second paper.
“That’s sarcasm, right?” Zappy asked him, to which he nodded. Zappy beamed a cute smile up at Nathan and he couldn’t help but roll his eyes playfully. Zappy had been having trouble with sarcasm in particular. She had been the only one to have a major problem with it out of the three Pokemon Nathan had captured. He had taught them all the English language, because even though he could speak in the PokeLanguage fairly fluently, he felt that it was imperative for the Pokemon to learn the language so they could speak with other people if need be.
Nathan looked down at the needlessly complicated form in front of him and began to fill it out again, his green pen flying about the paper as he did so, picking up easily on the various shortcuts he had been taught by Ryan.
Later on in the night….
“Well, this isn’t too hard….” Nathan muttered, and then checked his watch. “Holy crap!” He shouted, eyes widening. “It cannot be that late already…”
Zappy, who had been sleeping in a comfortable basket Nathan had placed near the door to the office, jarred awake blinking and looking at Nathan. “What’s wrong?” She asked, her small, light yellow paws rubbing her eyes, as she tried to wake up.
“It’s two a.m. in the morning!” Nathan replied miserably, as he glanced at the stack of papers sitting next to him. No longer as large as it had been before, at around nine thirty at night, when he had began his assignment, the paper was now only about a foot tall, but it was still intimidating, especially now as Nathan realized how late it was… His eyes became hard to hold open and they started to flutter closed. He yawned widely, very tired. “I’m going to just take a little nap…” He muttered.
“Don’t, Nate.” Zappy said. “You said those papers have to be done by the morning…” She yawned herself and stretched her arms, seriously considering curling back up into the bed and going back to sleep.
“I’m soooo tired though,” he muttered. And with that, Nathan dozed off into a deep sleep. Zappy sighed and curled up in her blanket, closing her own eyes and drifting off as well.
